EVP reports on programming, sustainability
Executive Vice President Kalen Eshoff* conducted a personal study of programming at Whitworth and presented it to the assembly at the ASWU meeting Dec. 2.
She found that there are 450 programs a semester, and one student has the option of five programs every day.
Eshoff brought up the idea of focusing and simplifying programming, to decrease the amount of stress members are under and make the programming better.
Eshoff also updated members of the actions of the Sustainability Sub-committee. They intend to focus on campus energy, water usage, more sustainable printing in the library, reusable water bottles and mugs, and improving recycling bins.
Requisitions
ASWU passed two requisitions, one from a joint team of the Natashi and The Whitworthian and one for The Whitworthian.
The joint requisition was to buy two professional cameras for use on the publications, to replace the items stolen over the summer. They plan to buy two cameras with the hopes of dividing the photo staff for the Whitworthian and the Natashi in the future. This requisition was passed for $2,245.
The requisition from the Whitworthian was for $1,311 to buy a camcorder. There are plans in place to use this to increase the media capacity and availability on the online edition. This requisition was passed unanimously.
Club updates
President of the International Club Annastasia Sherman updated ASWU on their recent activities, with the most notable example being the International Banquet. In addition to this big event, the club has a lot of involvement and personal interaction. There are 20 to 30 active members.
President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Joanne Meyer spoke to ASWU about the club’s weekly meetings to fellowship, have bible study, and worship. This year they’ve participated in the nation-wide Fields of Faith and have gone Christmas caroling.
Junior Justin Jones from the Running Club answered questions about the club. They have weekly meetings on Wednesday, with about 10-15 people attending. They teamed up with WhitFit to put on the 5k Turkey Trot. All of the leaders of the club have cross country experience, but people of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.
Members discussed the new overnight parking situation, student’s concern over the cost of the ice sculptures at the President’s Christmas Reception, and the whether Mind & Hearth coffee cups are recyclable. This was the last ASWU meeting of the semester.
